Small Wonder

Nestled within native bushland on the Western Ridge of the Tamar Valley, Small Wonder is a family-owned business focused on quality small-batch winemaking. Although we are small, we aspire to create positive change well beyond our size by reducing our impact on the environment, respecting the land, supporting communities, and celebrating Tasmania.

Our 20-hectare vineyard was planted in 1998 and converted to Certified Organic in 2022. The vines represent a diverse clonal selection spanning an array of soil types, with our aromatic whites—Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, and Pinot Gris—preferring the grey sandy soil at the top of the vineyard. Our Chardonnay and Pinot Noir plantings transition gently down the slope, with grey silt loam tending to red silt clay loam and Ferris mudstone. We are incredibly proud to say our wines are now fully Certified Organic and 100% grown, made, and bottled on-site.

Completed in January 2024, our newly built winery was constructed with energy efficiency and environmental credibility front of mind. With a state-of-the-art wastewater treatment system, rainwater harvesting and storage, electricity generation via solar panels, and on-site electric vehicle charging stations, every aspect of the facility was designed with sustainability and functionality at the forefront. Not to mention the surrounding land and vegetation management, which focused on preserving existing bushland and establishing additional natural habitat areas to encourage biodiversity.

Small Wonder wines are a true reflection of the unique characteristics of Northern Tasmania. They show freshness, detail, and vivacity, offering a one-of-a-kind tasting experience. We invite you to join us for a relaxed tasting and gourmet platter while soaking in the stunning views from our Small Wonder Cellar Door.

This vineyard participates in the Tamar Valley Mixed Dozen freight scheme.

Collect wine on your travels and present your purchased bottles (in dozen lots) at the last vineyard on your journey – they’ll let you know the cost of freight and it will be sent to your home address.
